Consent to Participate in Online Survey
I am a professor in the School of Sustainability and College of Global Futures at Arizona State University. I am conducting a research study to collect input on the Global Council for Science and the Environment’s (GCSE) Proposal Statement on Key Competencies in Sustainability. The input will be used to refine the Proposal Statement and provide insights on how the key competencies in sustainability are being and can be applied in sustainability and sustainability-related programs in higher education.

I am inviting your participation, which will involve completing a survey after reviewing the Proposal Statement to provide your perspective on the information presented in the document. The survey should take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. You have the right not to answer any question, and to stop participation at any time.

Your participation in this study is voluntary.  If you choose not to participate or to withdraw from the study at any time, there will be no penalty. You must be 18 or older to participate in the study.

Participation in the study will help you to reflect on your perspectives on the key competencies in sustainability. This may support insights that can be applied in your program or position to the benefit of administration, instructors, or students. Responses to the survey will be used to refine the GCSE Proposal Statement which will be published to provide guidance on learning objectives for sustainability and sustainability-related programs in higher education. There are no foreseeable risks or discomforts to your participation.

Data from the survey will be stored in a secure cloud storage space for 3 years, after which it will be destroyed. Data storage will be managed by the research team. Your responses will be anonymous. The results of this study may be used in reports, presentations, or publications but your name will not be used. Aggregated and de-identified data collected as a part of the study may be shared with employees of the Global Council for Science and the Environment for future research purposes or to inform potential programming needs or reports.

If you have any questions concerning the research study, please contact the research team at: Katja.Brundiers@asu.edu. If you have any questions about your rights as a subject/participant in this research, or if you feel you have been placed at risk, you can contact the Chair of the Human Subjects Institutional Review Board, through the ASU Office of Research Integrity and Assurance, at (480) 965-6788.

By proceeding with the survey you are agreeing to be part of the study.
